PROGRAMS
At Portal, we focus on Brazilian jiu jitsu and kickboxing and offer a range of programs to suit your needs. See our programs below and get in touch here for a free trial.

FUNDAMENTAL BJJ
Understanding the concepts of jiu-jitsu is paramount to developing a strong, well-rounded game. These fundamental concepts are explored in great depth and detail in these classes and are the perfect way to build a solid jiu-jitsu foundation. Everyone is encouraged to come to these classes, not just new students. These classes are ideal for anyone trying jiu-jitsu for the first time and we recommend new students to commence training in one of these classes.

KIDS BJJ
4 - 7 years
This class introduces kids to having fun on the mats with a limited fight-type focus. Students engage in a variety of games focused on developing coordination, promoting the continuation of their natural flexibility, as well as completing primal, animal-type movement patterns. Students begin to realise the core fundamental principles of respect and teamwork in these classes

7 - 12 years
Kids are introduced to self-defense techniques as well as understanding situations in which they may be applied. The class structure involves understanding technique, as well as participating in a variety of games that are used to instill movement patterns specific to jiu-jitsu. A balance of technique and games maintains engagement and promotes a fun and optimal learning experience

TEENS BJJ
The teens program is suitable for the beginner student and tailored to kids of this age group. Lessons cover and build upon the fundamental principles of jiu-jitsu with all lessons delivered in a supportive and friendly learning environment. Students learn self-defence while developing self-esteem, confidence, discipline, and respect.

NO GI
Training Jiu-Jitsu without a Gi (the kimono uniform traditionally worn in jiu-jitsu) so terms this class; ‘No Gi’. Training without a Gi differs from regular classes not only in the training attire but in the grips, pace, as well as strategy.
While training in a Gi is commonly regarded as more technical, No Gi is a closer imitation of a real-life fight-type scenario. The absence of the traditional attire means training is a closer imitation of such a situation in which jiu-jitsu may need to be applied. While No Gi is not purely a self-defence class and does not instruct on striking technique, consideration is given and noted to the potential of an aggressor in such situations and instructs on appropriate jiu-jitsu technique with respect to this.

KICKBOXING
One of our most popular classes for beginner to advanced trainers and includes a dynamic mix of kickboxing-based fitness and technical training. All fitness and skill levels are catered for in this class and no prior knowledge is needed. If you’re just starting out and perhaps a little intimidated by trying a combat sport, then this is the class for you!

PRIVATE LESSONS
Whether you wish to focus on a particular aspect of your game, develop a strategy for an upcoming competition, or receive intensive tuition, private or small group lessons are available for both our Brazilian jiu-jitsu and kickboxing programs.
